Garage Sale Tips for Sellers: Preparing For A Garage Sale

Preparing For A Garage Sale

To have a successful Garage Sale you should starting planning months before the actual sale. Begin by collecting items you may want to sell and store them in an out-of-the-way place. Be sure to go through the items at least once and remove any items you may still want or need that may have been accidentally added to the pile. You’ll also want to make sure you have the owner's approval before you sell their items. For example, your children may get upset if you sell their childhood toys or collectibles. Even if you don’t have months to prepare, gather what you can in the time allowed.

Once you have finalized the items you are going to be selling, go through items to make sure you haven’t left any valuables in clothing pockets, purses or bags. You’ll also want to be on the lookout for old credit card receipts, which could have even been left in books, being used as bookmarks.

In the month before your Garage Sale, you should save plastic bags from the grocery store and old newspapers. The newspapers can be used to package fragile items and sold items can be put in plastic bags to make it easier for buyers to carry their purchased items home. Cardboard boxes are also another item to be on the lookout for. This is a great backing material for the signs you can download and print.

If you spend the month prior to your Garage Sale taking care of these items, you should be well on your way to a profitable Garage Sale.
